Overview
A large part of the audio world does not want a finished loudspeaker. DIY builders have already chosen their drivers and designed their crossovers. System integrators need shells that match a room’s joinery. Restorers need a replacement cabinet for a vintage pair whose original box has been ruined by damp or a previous owner’s router. Brands in development need shells to test three enclosure variants before committing to tooling. All of them need the same thing: a custom empty wooden speaker cabinet box built accurately to their dimensions and supplied without drivers, crossovers or wiring.
Woodsat builds exactly that. You send dimensions, an alignment, driver cut-out sizes and a finish requirement, and we return a complete empty cabinet — machined, assembled, braced, sealed, damped if requested and finished to the standard you specify. Nothing is fitted that you did not ask for, and the internal volume is calculated after bracing so the figure you designed around is the figure you actually receive.
The empty-cabinet market is often served badly. Generic boxes are sold in a handful of stock sizes with cut-outs that nearly fit, panels of unverified thickness and internal volumes that are quoted gross rather than net. That is fine for a first experiment and useless for a serious build. Our position is that an empty cabinet should be held to the same standard as an OEM production cabinet: real tolerances, documented construction and a finish that would pass on a retail product. The only difference is that the driver bay is left for you to populate.

Production Process
The first step is always a volume check. Customers frequently send external dimensions and a target litre figure that do not reconcile once panel thickness, bracing and port displacement are subtracted. We calculate the net internal volume and confirm it with you before machining, because a cabinet that is three litres small is a cabinet that will never hit the modelled response no matter how well it is built.
With drawings confirmed, panels are nested and machined with joinery cut in place. Assembly is dry-fitted and checked for square before glue-up. Bracing goes in before closure and is inspected, since nothing can be corrected once the final panel is on. The cabinet is then either sanded raw for customer finishing or moved into our finishing department. Every unit is inspected for squareness, cut-out accuracy, sealing and finish quality, then packed with corner protection — empty cabinets are light and awkward and take more transit damage than loaded ones.

We are happy to mix materials within one cabinet — a plywood shell with an MDF baffle for cleaner recess machining, or a hardwood front with painted sides. Empty-cabinet customers tend to have specific opinions about materials, and we would rather build what you asked for than substitute what is convenient.
Finishes & Veneers
Empty cabinets can be supplied at any point on the finishing scale. Many DIY customers want them raw-sanded to 180 or 220 grit so they can veneer or spray at home. Others want the hard part done professionally — a full high-gloss piano-lacquer build, flat-sanded and machine-polished, which is essentially impossible to achieve in a domestic workshop — and are happy to fit their own drivers into a finished shell.
Between those extremes we offer book-matched natural veneer, matte and satin PU, textured coatings, oiled and waxed natural finishes, and vinyl or carpet wraps for utility applications. Where you are matching an existing pair or a piece of furniture, send a physical sample and we will match against it rather than working from a photograph, which is never reliable for colour.

Quality & Acoustic Control
Because the customer supplies the drivers, the cabinet has to be right first time — there is no opportunity for us to compensate downstream. Cut-out diameters are verified against your specified figures, recess depths are machined to your flange dimension, and the finished internal volume is confirmed against the design target. Airtightness is checked on sealed designs, and where we install damping the material weight and placement are recorded so a matched pair really is matched.
We also check the things that cause the most complaints in the empty-cabinet market: squareness across diagonals, panel flatness on the baffle, edge coverage of the finish, and cut-out concentricity. A driver mounted in a slightly oval cut-out will never gasket properly, and the resulting leak is usually blamed on the driver rather than the box.
Ordering Single Cabinets, Pairs and Batches
We accept single cabinets, matched pairs and trade batches. Single units suit restoration and one-off projects. Pairs are built together from the same material batch and, where veneered, from sequenced flitch so the grain relates across the two cabinets. Trade batches for retailers and distributors are produced against a fixed specification with consistent packaging and labelling, so a customer buying the same model a year apart receives the same product.
