Overview
High-fidelity loudspeakers are judged twice: once by ear, and once across a showroom floor before anyone has heard a note. Woodsat is a HiFi speaker cabinet manufacturer that treats both judgements as engineering problems. On the acoustic side that means panel constructions and bracing schemes that push cabinet resonances down in amplitude and out of the range where the ear is most sensitive. On the cosmetic side it means veneer sequencing, edge treatment and lacquer schedules executed to furniture standards rather than electronics standards.
Premium hi-fi is a demanding sector to manufacture for because the tolerances that matter are often invisible. A 0.3 mm step where a curved side wall meets a rear panel will be caught immediately under a gloss finish. A veneer seam that drifts a millimetre off centre on a book-matched baffle destroys the symmetry the whole design depends on. Grain that does not run in sequence across a pair of towers will be spotted by a dealer within seconds. These are not acoustic failures, but they are commercial failures, and a manufacturer working in this segment has to hold both standards at once.
Our hi-fi clients range from established brands with flagship models to small specialist companies producing a few hundred pairs a year at very high price points. Volumes are lower than in consumer audio, but the engineering content per unit is far higher: multi-chamber internal architecture, constrained-layer damping, curved laminated walls, machined solid-hardwood trim, isolated crossover bays, and finishing schedules that can involve a dozen separate coating and sanding operations before a cabinet is signed off.

Production Process
A hi-fi programme opens with a panel study rather than a quotation. We look at where the large unsupported spans are, model how the proposed bracing changes their behaviour, and advise where constrained-layer construction or additional partitions would earn their cost. This conversation happens before pricing because a brace added at the design stage is inexpensive and a brace added after tooling is not.
Machining is held to tighter tolerances than our standard work because curved and laminated assemblies stack errors quickly. Laminated side walls are pressed over formers and allowed to stabilise before trimming. Matrix bracing is dry-fitted and inspected before the cabinet is closed. Veneer is selected from a single flitch and sequenced so that grain runs correctly across the pair, not merely within each cabinet. Lacquer is built up over multiple coats with flatting between each, then cured properly before polishing — rushing the cure is the most common cause of gloss finishes that sink and look dull three months later.
Finished cabinets are acoustically checked and matched, then packed with white-glove protection: soft inner bags, moulded inserts, corner armour and outer cartons rated for the weight. Flagship cabinets are frequently crated.

Finishes & Veneers
Finishing is where hi-fi cabinets are made or lost. Our piano-lacquer process involves grain filling, sealer coats, colour or clear build coats, flat sanding between stages, a full cure, then multi-stage machine polishing to a true mirror. The result should show a reflection with no visible orange peel, no sink marks over joints and no burn-through at edges — the last of which is the hallmark of a shop that polishes too aggressively on a radius.
On the veneer side we work from sequenced flitches so that grain can be book-matched across a baffle, wrapped continuously around a curved side wall, and carried across left and right cabinets as a mirrored pair. Species range from classic walnut, rosewood substitutes, ebony and macassar through to figured maple, olive ash and dyed reconstituted veneers for brands wanting a contemporary look. Satin and matte finishes are also available for designs where a gloss surface would be visually intrusive, and combination finishes — gloss black body with a natural veneer baffle, for example — are common in current premium product design.

Quality & Acoustic Control
Hi-fi cabinets receive our most detailed inspection regime. Dimensional checks cover squareness, panel flatness, curved-wall profile against a template, and driver recess depth. Structural checks confirm bracing placement and adhesive coverage before closure. Finish inspection is carried out under standardised lighting, examining gloss level, distinctness of image, edge coverage and freedom from inclusions — a single dust particle under a mirror finish is a reject in this segment.
Acoustically, cabinets are checked for airtightness, damping specification and, where the programme requires it, panel vibration behaviour so a design change can be verified rather than assumed. Left and right units are matched and shipped as a numbered pair, with records retained against the serial numbers. For brands where every unit is individually registered to a customer, we can supply per-serial documentation.
Working With Premium Audio Brands
Low volume does not mean low discipline. Flagship programmes still get golden samples, work instructions, inspection plans and formal change control, because a brand selling at flagship prices cannot afford unit-to-unit variation. What changes at this level is the amount of skilled hand work involved — veneer selection, final polishing and final inspection are human judgements, and we staff those operations with people who have spent years doing them.
We also understand the confidentiality and timing pressures around flagship launches. Development work is compartmentalised, prototypes are controlled, and we plan capacity around show dates so a cabinet is ready and cured properly rather than rushed out of the polishing room the week before a launch.
